La Fête

The underlying idea of La Fête is the myth of Pygmalion, the story of a sculptor, who creates the statue of the ideal woman, suddenly coming alive. Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683-1764), one of the most prominent baroque composers, created one of his masterpieces on this topic within 8 days. The central theme is not only man committing himself to art, but also love seducing man to see only what he desires to see. See and be seen - in love as well as in society. La Fête combines the ancient myth of Pygmalion with another work by Rameau, dealing with the twist and turns of man's involvement in art and love: Les Fêtes d´Hébé ou Les Talents lyriques. In this production opera and dance are closely interwoven.

"Orchestra, singers and dancers harmonize perfectly while supporting each others performance in this skillful production. [...] With sophistication the staging and direction plays on the classiness of the ensemble - elegantly accompanied by the Orchestra of Staatstheater Oldenburg."
